How many tablets do I need?

Most people start on 50 mg, taken about an hour before sex. One tablet covers one occasion. The prescriber recommends 100 mg only when clinically appropriate.

Pack size does not determine how often you should take a medicine. Follow your prescriber’s instructions and the patient information leaflet.

Taking sildenafil safely

Take one tablet with water about an hour before sex. Never combine it with nitrates, GTN spray or poppers.

Side effects

Common effects include headache, flushing, blocked nose and indigestion. Sudden vision or hearing loss, or an erection lasting over four hours, needs urgent medical help.

Can I get sildenafil online without a prescription?

No. Sildenafil is prescription-only in the UK and every request requires a clinical assessment and prescriber decision.

Why might 50 mg not work?

Food, timing, sexual stimulation, alcohol, anxiety and underlying health conditions can all affect the response. Do not increase the dose yourself — tell the prescriber so they can review how you took it and whether another strength or treatment is appropriate.
